Mathematics

Competence in Mathematics is essential if an individual is to participate fully in society.

At the School of the Good Shepherd we value the importance of developing a growth mindset and positive attitude towards Maths. Our Maths program provides all students with access to important mathematical ideas, knowledge and skills that they will draw on lives far beyond the walls of our school.

The Mathematics curriculum focuses on developing increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, modelling and problem-solving. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematics to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently. Over the course of their primary schooling, children develop essential skills and knowledge in the content strands of:
• Number and Algebra
• Measurement and Geometry
• Statistics and Probability

Our Maths program offers:
  • A specialised Maths leader
  • A Number Intervention teacher for students at risk
  • Mathematics Olympics Program (MOPS) for extension
  • Mathletics for all students
  • A well resourced Maths department
  • Chromebooks and iPads to support Mathematical learning
