At School of The Good Shepherd, the Student Representative Council, provides opportunities for student voice, the development of student leadership skills and encourages active participation in the decision making processes across the school.
The following leadership positions will be held by Year 6 students. We believe in equity, diversity and inclusion where all students have the opportunity to undertake a leadership position. Student voice at School of the Good Shepherd is sort and welcomed.
Year 6 Leadership Positions include:
- Captains x 2
- Sports Leaders x 8
Year P-6 Leadership positions include:
- SRC (Student Representative council) x 1 per class
A Buddy Program encourages children from different grades to make connections with others.
Grades are ‘buddied up’ and involve older children being paired with younger children. Planned activities between the classes are held throughout the year. Buddy grades attend Parish Mass together.
The program aims to provide opportunity for the development of a sense of community between the whole school, the development of new friendships and leadership skills and responsibilities.
Our Buddy Program extends to our new parents, providing support and information about our school.
Peer mediation is problem solving by students with students. It is a process by which two or more students involved in a dispute meet in a private, safe and confidential setting to work out problems with the assistance of a trained student mediator.
Peer Mediation training is offered to all of our year 5 students. These students assist others to come to an agreed outcome for conflict resolution. It empowers students with confidence and voice to be forward thinking and problem solving.
School of the Good Shepherd lunchtime clubs for kids are run every lunchtime for 20 minutes and provide a variety of activities for the students to do during their break.
The clubs are run by volunteers such as classroom teachers, parents and other members of the school community. The clubs are an opportunity for students to socialise with other students, develop strong friendships, use social skills and to engage in things that interest them. Student voice is sought to see what clubs interest the students and they change every term. Some of these include passive play activities such as Reading, Chess or Meditation and more active activities such as Gardening, Board Games, Dance, Minecraft or Lego Construction.
